Around the Globe in Four Hours

Carassauga, great way to visit countries without leaving Mississauga.
Too bad we did not have enough time to visit all of them.  But....

We traveled on camel though Egypt...

In Poland, we tasted pierogi and paczki, made friends, and admired dancers and Polish costumes...

We enjoyed Jamaican music...

In Greece we journeyed through time to see one of the Seven Wonders of an Ancient World, the Colossus of Rhodes...

We tried how it feels to be Greek, admired beautiful artifacts, watched dancers and visited a church...

Hawaii was fun.  We pretended to be dancing Hawaiian family, we had picture taken with beautiful Hawaiian girl, and enjoyed watching dancers...

In Philippines we enjoyed music and dance...

We concluded our voyage partying in Latin America.

It was fun.

Multiply by 6, 7, 8 & 9

You can use your fingers to multiply by 6, 7, 8 and 9.
Hold your hands palms up, and point your fingers toward one another.
Assign numbers 6, 7, 8 and 9 to fingers of both hands starting from the bottom to the top.

For example let's multiply 7 x 8.  Touch the finger number 7 on the left hand with the finger number 8 on the right hand.

Add fingers below the touching fingers plus the two touching fingers.  In this case we have one finger on the left hand, two fingers on the right hand and two touching fingers, so our sum is five.
1 + 2 + 2 = 5
These are the tens.

To get ones or units, multiply the number of fingers on the left hand above the touching fingers by the number of fingers on the right hand above the touching fingers.
In this case 3 x 2 = 6, and these are the ones.

Therefore the result is 56.
7 x 8 = 56

***

Now let's try 6 x 6.

There are no fingers bellow the fingers that touch, so there are only two tens, the two touching fingers.
There are four fingers on the left hand and four fingers on the right hand, above the touching fingers, so there are 4 x 4 units, which equals 16.

The result is 20 + 16 = 36,

so 6 x 6 = 36

***

You can practice to find the results for the following multiplications:
 6 x 7, 6 x 8, 6 x 9, 7 x 7, 7 x 9, 8 x 8, 8 x 9

Have Fun!

If you know what flower/plant it is please share it in a comment area.

Thank you.

Close-Up: Exercise Your Imagination

What do you see?

Do not move to the next image till you come up with at least one thing.

What do you see now?

Did you think of at least one thing?

What do you think this is?

Any ideas?

Here is the final image.

Frog's face made up out of 99 pieces of thin cardboard.

How did your imagination do?
Did you see stack of shoe inserts? Maybe a big mountain with terraces, or rice terraces?  What about some movie set or pile of cloths?
I am sure you had other ideas as well.
Hope you had fun.

Multiplying by 9

Did you memorize your multiplication table? Forgot it?
You can use your fingers to calculate the result.
Hold your hands with palms facing you and assign the numbers 1 thought 10 to your fingers, starting with left pinky.

For example if you want to multiply  5 x 9, bend the fifth finger.  Number of fingers to the left of bent finger represent the tens, and the number of fingers to the right represent ones.  There are four fingers to the left and five fingers to the right, thus the solution is 45.

5 x 9 = 45

Would you like another example?  How about 7 x 9.
Bend the seventh finger.  You have six fingers to the right and three to the left.  The result is 63.

7 x 9 = 63

Now even if you forget the multiplication table you will be able to figure out at least how to multiply by 9.
Have fun playing with it.

Seventeen Pearls

Once upon a time there was a pirate who decided to loot the Royal Ship.  After devising the plan he realized he cannot do it on his own, thus he asked another pirate and promised him one third of the treasure.  When the night came they asked ship mate to stay on the look out so they will not be surprised by guards, and they promised him one ninth of the treasure.

When they opened the stolen treasure box they found seventeen pearls inside.  They started to argue how many each will get. "I will get half of the pearls because it was my plan, you will get one third as I promised and the ship mate one ninth, but how to divide seventeen pearls, if we cut them they will have no value...".  They argued louder and louder, how many each should get.
Can you help them to figure it out?

Would you like a hint?
